Welcome to the Music Department where it is our philosophy that "music should be caught and not taught"

Ms Paula Tynan
It has been my pleasure to work here at St Tiernan's Community School for the last11 years, teaching Music and geography at Junior and Leaving Cert Level.
I completed my B.A in Geography and Music in St Pat's College, Drumcondra and my Post Grad in Education in Trinity College, Dublin. I also graduated with a Teaching Diploma (ALCM) from The London College of Music specialising in piano teaching. I have been a member of PDST, delivering in services for music teachers in secondary schools and I was also a member of the NIPT delivering lectures to newly qualified primary and post primary school teachers. I'm currently on the panel For the Department of Education delivering IT training courses for primary and secondary teachers through Drumcondra Education Centre at St Pats College. During the summers I work for the state examinations commission correcting exams and also act as a superintendent.
I am particularly interested in choral conducting of both secular and non secular music. I was involved in a new choral initiative called Corus where I was a choir leader for three years, conducting community choirs in Malahide and Glasnevin. Our repertoir included gospel, pop, barbershop and some Irish music. I also direct our school student choir with Ms Bannigan my colleague and our 2 invaluable SNAs Lisa Anderson and Marion Foley. I am interested in developing music technology and ICT in the classroom and amongst other pedagogical approaches, I embrace the Kodaly method of teaching music. I hope to pursue a masters in Choral Conducting in the near future. I am a founder and co-owner of the IT company "thedigiteachers.com" and have delivered courses to teachers from all over Europe as part of Erasmus Programme since 2013. Our Easter and Summer course are delivered here in St Tiernan's Community School, Parkvale Dundrum.
